Gurudwara Chheharta Sahib
Gurudwara Chheharta Sahib is located at Guru Ki Wadali, the sacred birthplace of the Sixth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the son of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. This holy site holds deep historical and spiritual significance in Sikh history.
Upon receiving the joyful news of the birth of his son, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji personally supervised the construction of a large well at this place to serve the needs of the local sangat. This well was unique, as it was fitted with six Persian wheels operating simultaneously to draw water. Because of these six wheels, the well came to be known as “Chheharta,” meaning the well with six wheels.
The well played a vital role in addressing water scarcity in the region. Through its abundant water supply, the surrounding fields flourished, transforming the area into fertile and green land. The water from this well was not only used for agriculture but was also distributed among the sangat for daily needs.
According to Sikh tradition, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji blessed this sacred well with divine grace. It is believed that women who bathe with devotion using the water of this well for twelve Panchamis are blessed with offspring and those suffering from illnesses receive relief. Large quantities of sacred water were made available to devotees, bringing comfort, healing and prosperity.
Even today, devotees visit Gurudwara Chheharta Sahib with deep faith and reverence. By performing darshan and ishnaan, the sangat continues to experience the spiritual blessings and divine presence of the Guru Sahiban at this historically revered site.
