Gurudwara Kangha Sahib

There are two Sikh shrines associated with the name “Gurudwara Kangha Sahib”—one located in Village Powat and another in Village Dulchi Majra. This often creates confusion among visitors and researchers.

According to Sikh historical sources and traditional chronicles, Gurudwara Kangha Sahib, Powat is generally regarded as the primary historical site connected with the incident where Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji combed his hair (Kangha) and changed his turban while traveling from Chamkaur Sahib to Machhiwara after the Battle of Chamkaur. The village of Powat lies directly on the traditionally accepted route followed by Guru Sahib during this journey, and for this reason it is commonly highlighted in mainstream Sikh historical references.

At the same time, Gurudwara Kangha Sahib, Dulchi Majra is also revered by the local Sangat and historians as a sacred location associated with the same journey. Historical accounts suggest that Guru Gobind Singh Ji passed through several locations while moving through forests and difficult terrain to avoid pursuing Mughal forces. As a result, Dulchi Majra is recognized as one of the places where Guru Sahib is believed to have rested or paused during this perilous journey.

Therefore, these two Gurudwaras should not be viewed as competing claims. Rather, they commemorate different points along the same historic route undertaken by Guru Gobind Singh Ji from Chamkaur Sahib to Machhiwara. While Powat is generally considered the principal site associated with the Kangha episode in mainstream Sikh history, Dulchi Majra remains an important and respected memorial of Guru Sahib’s passage through the region.
