Gurudwara Kanga Sahib Village, Powat

Gurudwara Kangha Sahib is located in Village Powat and marks a historically significant site associated with the journey of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It is believed that Guru Ji visited this village while traveling from Chamkaur Sahib towards Machhiwara after the fierce battle of Chamkaur. He took rest at this spot for a few hours. It was here that Guru combed his hair and changed his turban before moving to Machhiwara.

Although this location is not mentioned in prominent texts like Tawarikh Guru Khalsa or Sri Gur Pratap Suraj Granth, its historical authenticity is validated through an old source titled Gur Dham Sangreh, authored by Giani Gian Singh. According to this text, Powat Nagar is listed as one of the 213 sacred sites (asthans) blessed by the physical presence of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, specifically at number 24. This reference can be found on page 233 of the book.

Gurudwara Kangha Sahib has been built to commemorate this visit. The site stands as part of the sacred route that Guru Gobind Singh Ji followed from Patna Sahib to Hazur Sahib, with Powat Nagar being one of the spiritually significant locations along this journey. From here, Guru Ji continued his travel to Machhiwara. The Gurdwara remains a revered place of devotion where Sangat gathers regularly to pay respects and reflect upon the Guru’s legacy.
