Gurudwara Handi Sahib

Gurudwara Handi Sahib is located in Danapur, Bihar. It is a significant historical site marking the first halt of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s family after departing from Patna Sahib for Punjab. This sacred place is deeply associated with the devotion of an old lady named Yamuna Devi, who welcomed the Guru’s family with immense love and humility. She prepared a simple meal of khichdi in a small handi (kettle) and served it to the Guru’s family and the accompanying devotees. Miraculously, despite feeding a large number of people, the food never ran out, symbolizing divine grace and endless devotion.

Over time, a shrine was established at this location, originally called Handiwali Sangat, which later became known as Gurudwara Handi Sahib. The land for the Gurudwara was generously donated by Mathura Singh, the son of Yamuna Devi, whose family continues to be closely associated with its management and seva. Presently, Sri Arun Singh, a descendant of the family, upholds this sacred responsibility.

Every year, a grand annual function is organized here after the Prakash Parv of Guru Gobind Singh Ji in February. Devotees from far and wide visit to pay their respects and seek blessings. The Gurudwara stands as a testament to unwavering faith, selfless service and the divine connection between the Guru and his followers.
