Bhagani, a small village on the banks of the River Yamuna in Sirmaur district, is where Guru Gobind Singh Ji fought his first battle in 1688. This battle was against the combined forces of hill chiefs led by Raja Bhim Chand of Kahlur. The conflict arose when Guru Ji declined to lend Bhim Chand a trained elephant. Tensions escalated after Bhim Chand forced Raja Fateh Chand of Garhwal to reject Guru Ji’s customary wedding gift sent during the marriage of his son. Following the wedding, the hill rajas launched a joint attack on Guru Ji at Paonta, resulting in a fierce and historic battle now commemorated at Gurudwara Teer Garhi Sahib.
