Gurudwara Sahib Patshahi Nauvin - Samaon
As Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji journeyed from Khiwa Kalan towards Samaon, a devoted Sikh approached with the news that Sangats from the Majha region were on their way to seek his divine darshan. Guru Sahib halted under a majestic banyan tree, waiting for devotees. This spot, part of the village common land, lay beside the field of a humble farmer named Jiona, a Jat of the Chahal clan.
At the time, Jiona was ploughing his field when his younger married sister brought him his midday meal. Just as he was about to eat, he noticed Guru Sahib seated under the tree. Overcome with reverence, he washed his hands, placed a fresh roti with an onion on top and humbly offered it to Guru Ji. The Guru, with divine grace, accepted the simple meal and shared it with his accompanying Sikhs.
Recognizing Jiona’s sincerity, Guru Ji then requested buttermilk, saying, “Sangats will soon arrive and we must serve them.” Jiona rushed home and informed his wife, Manso, of the Guru’s presence and the need to prepare buttermilk. With a touch of sarcasm, Manso replied that the milk had already been churned and added to the cooking pot and that he could serve what was left in the stirring vessel.
Jiona added salt to the remaining buttermilk, picked up the entire vessel and carried it—along with some leftover rotis—to Guru Ji. Deeply moved by Jiona’s humility and heartfelt devotion, Guru Sahib bestowed a special blessing upon him: “Milk shall always abound in thy house.”
To commemorate this sacred event, a shrine was later established beneath the same banyan tree. Today, Gurudwara Sahib Patshahi Nauvin stands as a testament to selfless service and the grace of the Guru. The Gurudwara celebrates key Sikh events, including the Prakash Divas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the Shahidi Gurpurab of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, with great reverence, kirtan, langar and active participation by the sangat.
