Gurudwara Sri Amb Sahib
Gurudwara Sri Amb Sahib is a revered historical site where Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji blessed the land with his holy presence and fulfilled his Sikh devotee’s wish.
Bhai Kuram Ji, a resident of Lambian village, once traveled to Sri Amritsar Sahib to have the divine darshan of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. It was the mango season and Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s congregation was in session. Devotees were offering various gifts. A group of Sikhs from Kabul presented ripe mangoes as an offering. Witnessing this, Bhai Kuram Ji felt disheartened, realizing that despite coming from a land known for its mangoes, he had not brought any to present before the Guru.
That night, as the congregation concluded, mangoes were distributed as prasad. However, Bhai Kuram Ji did not eat his share. Instead, he carefully preserved it. The next morning, after taking a bath, he also bathed the mango and humbly presented it before Guru Arjan Dev Ji in the congregation.
Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji later recounted this event and told Bhai Kuram, “This mango was given to you as prasad, yet you offer it back to us.” Bhai Kuram Ji humbly replied, “Since I come from a land of mangoes, seeing the Kabul Sangat’s offering made me feel that presenting this mango to you is more meaningful than consuming it myself.”
Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji then blessed him, saying, “Your sincerity has touched us. You may eat this mango now and when I return in my seventh form, I will eat mangoes from you.” Staying true to this divine promise, Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji visited this very place from Kurukshetra on the occasion of Poh Sangrand. He inquired about Bhai Kuram Ji, who was found meditating in an orchard. Guru Ji blessed him with his darshan and asked, “Bhai Kuram, now serve us mangoes!”
Bhai Kuram Ji, with folded hands, humbly replied, “O True King, it is not the season for mangoes and I do not have any to offer. But you are the Supreme Creator; nothing is beyond your command.”
Hearing this, Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji smiled and said, ‘The mango tree is laden with ripe mangoes.’ Upon hearing his words, Bhai Kuram Ji looked up and miraculously, the very tree under which Guru Ji stood was suddenly laden with ripe mangoes, despite being out of season. Bhai Kuram Ji was overwhelmed and fell at the Guru’s feet in gratitude. Guru Ji then instructed him to serve the mangoes to the Sangat. With utmost devotion, Bhai Kuram Ji distributed the mangoes from that miraculous tree to the Guru and the congregation.
Today, Gurudwara Sri Amb Sahib stands as a testament to this divine event. It reminds devotees of Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji’s blessings and Bhai Kuram Ji’s unwavering devotion.
