Gurudwara Shri Manji Sahib
Gurudwara Shri Manji Sahib, located in Kaithal, Haryana, is a significant historical and spiritual site for Sikhs. It marks the visit of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji during his travels. Guru Ji arrived in Kaithal from Baher Sahib and met a local carpenter named Mallha. When Guru Ji inquired about Sikhs in the area, Mallha informed him that , there is a house of Baniyas and also the house of a Tarakhan Sikh who is a devotee of the Guru.
Guru Ji, accompanied by Mallah, proceeded to Kaithal. Upon reaching near Kaithal, Bhai Mallha asked, “Which house should we go to first?” Guru Ji instructed, “Go to the house that is nearest.” Bhai Mallha took Guru Ji to Bhai Jugal’s house, where they were warmly welcomed. After taking a holy dip in the sacred river during Amrit Vela (early morning), Guru Ji sat under a tree for meditation and prayer. The local Sangat gathered to seek his blessings and among them was a man suffering from a fever. Guru Ji gave him leaves from a neem tree, which cured his illness. The tree, now called “Neem Sahib,” became a symbol of healing.
In the afternoon, Guru Ji shared a meal at Bhai Jugal’s home and the local Sangat brought offerings. Guru Ji instructed that regular Katha (scriptural discourse) and Keertan (devotional singing) be held at the site and assured the Sangat that anyone who came with devotion would have their wishes fulfilled. After spending some time at Neem Sahib, where he imparted teachings and the importance of community offerings, Guru Ji continued his journey towards the village of Barne on the 10th of Katak (October/November) in 1723.
The land where this Gurudwara now stands was donated by Bhai Uday Singh, the grandson Bhai Dhesa Singh, spanning 100 acres. It remains a cherished and sacred site for devotees to honor the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
