Gurudwara Sahib, Kanganpur Distt- Kasur
Gurudwara Sahib, Kanganpur, also known as Gurdwara Mal Ji Sahib, holds a significant place in Sikh history due to its association with Guru Nanak Dev Ji. According to local tradition, Guru Nanak and Bhai Mardana once visited this village. However, the villagers were unwelcoming and treated them with indifference, denying them hospitality. Before leaving, Guru Nanak blessed them, saying, “Vasde Raho” (May you live happily here). He then proceeded to the nearby village of Manak Deke (Manak Deki), where the inhabitants extended warm hospitality and a cordial welcome.
Surprisingly, upon leaving Manak Deke, Guru Nanak remarked, “Ujjarjdo” (May you be dispersed). Bhai Mardana, puzzled by this seemingly contradictory blessing, questioned the Guru. Guru Sahib explained that he wished for the ill-mannered residents of Kanganpur to remain concentrated so their negativity would not spread, while the virtuous people of Manak Deke should be dispersed to spread their goodness far and wide.
The current Gurudwara building was constructed in 1939 and served as a vibrant center of worship, particularly on the first day of every Bikrami month, with a major religious festival held annually in mid-March. However, following the partition of India in August-September 1947, the Gurudwara was abandoned. While the structure remains in good condition, it generally lacks regular maintenance and active congregational worship today.
