Gurudwara Guru Ka Bagh

Approximately three kilometers east of Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib lies a historically significant site where Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji first alighted upon his return to Patna. The location was a beautiful garden (bagh) that belonged to Nawabs Rahim Bakhsh and Karim Bakhsh, esteemed nobles of the city. It was here that the sangat of Patna, accompanied by the young Guru Gobind Singh Ji, came out with great reverence and joy to welcome Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who was returning after a long spiritual journey that had lasted over four years.

This heartfelt reunion between father and son and between Guru and sangat, is deeply cherished in Sikh history. To commemorate this sacred event, a shrine was established at the very site where they first met. The present structure of this Gurudwara was built during the 1970s and 1980s, preserving the sanctity and spirit of that divine encounter.

Remarkably, an ancient well that once quenched the thirst of the sangat continues to serve visitors to this day. Beside it stands the dried stump of the historic Imli (tamarind) tree under which Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was received. Though the tree no longer flourishes, its presence continues to echo the memory of that blessed moment in time, where spiritual legacy and familial bonds were beautifully united.
