Gurudwara Chubara Sahib,Machhiwara
Gurdwara Shri Chubara Sahib is located in the town of Machhiwara Sahib, in Ludhiana District. It is a significant site where Guru Gobind Singh Ji arrived after Gurdwara Charan Kanwal Sahib. The place where the Gurdwara now stands once belonged to two devoted brothers, Gulaba and Punjaba, who had previously supplied ration to Guru Gobind Singh Ji during his time at Anandpur Sahib. Upon hearing of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s arrival in the area, they requested that Guru Ji come to their home. In response to their request, Guru Ji visited their house.
During this visit, Mata Hardeyi Ji, a devoted follower of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, offered handmade clothing to the Guru. Due to her old age, she had been unable to present her annual offering of clothing at Anandpur Sahib for some time. Nevertheless, she prepared and presented the garments, which Guru Ji accepted with gratitude and greatly pleased her.
At that time, Gani Khan and Nabi Khan, two Pathans from the area, heard of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s arrival in Machhiwara. The two brothers, filled with devotion, took Guru Ji to their home (now Gurdwara Shri Gani Khan Nabi Khan Sahib) and served him with great respect.
Meanwhile, the enemy forces, still pursuing Guru Gobind Singh Ji, reached Machhiwara. Gani Khan and Nabi Khan, determined to protect Guru ji, requested Guru Ji to take on the appearance of ‘Uch Da Peer,’ as all Uch Da Peer wore blue clothes, making it difficult for anyone to recognize him as Guru Ji. To carry out the plan, Gani Khan took the clothing offered by Mata Hardeyi Ji to a local dyer, intending to dye it blue. However, the dyer informed the dye was not ready.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji, displaying his divine power, instructed Gani Khan to tell the dyer that the dye was ready and that the clothes would be colored. As Guru Ji had said, the clothes were dyed beautifully—better than anyone had expected. The dyer, astonished by this miracle, fell at Guru Ji’s feet in humility. Guru Gobind Singh Ji blessed him, telling him that from that day forward, there would be no need to add dye to color the clothes. The clothes would be dyed with the color the dyer had in mind.
The large earthen pot (matt) in which Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s clothes were dyed as part of this miracle is still preserved at Gurdwara Shri Chabara Sahib. It serves as a historical relic, a tangible reminder of Guru Ji’s divine power and blessings. The Gurdwara remains a place of reverence for Sikhs, symbolizing devotion, humility, and the Guru’s extraordinary ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
