Guru Ka Lahore - Bilaspur

Guru Ka Lahore is a revered historical site comprising a cluster of three Gurudwaras located near Basantgarh village in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. The site lies about 12 kilometers north of Anandpur Sahib in Punjab and is closely associated with the marriage of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

The betrothal of Guru Gobind Singh Ji to Mata Jito Ji took place during the lifetime of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. However, the marriage was postponed due to the martyrdom of the Ninth Guru in November 1675. In early 1677, Mata Jito Ji’s father, Bhai Hari Jas, a resident of Lahore, visited Chakk Nanaki, now known as Anandpur Sahib. He proposed that the marriage party should travel to Lahore and the wedding be solemnized there at an appropriate date.

After deliberation, the elders of the Guru’s family felt that it was not advisable to travel to Lahore under the prevailing circumstances. Guru Gobind Singh Ji then expressed a historic resolve, saying that a Lahore would be created at that very place. He suggested that the bride’s family could come and settle there temporarily and that the marriage could be conducted as planned. As a result, a temporary settlement was established near Basantgarh and was named Guru Ka Lahore.

Bhai Hari Jas arrived with his family and relatives, and the Anand Karaj was solemnized on 23rd Har 1734 Bikrami, corresponding to 21 June 1677. Even after the temporary camp was dismantled, the site continued to be regarded as sacred. Over time, a Gurudwara was established at the original camp site, and two more Gurudwaras were later constructed near nearby natural springs, forming the present complex of Guru Ka Lahore.

Gurudwara Anand Karaj Sthan Patshahi Dasvin marks the exact place where the marriage ceremony of Guru Gobind Singh Ji was performed. The present structure consists of a square hall with a domed sanctum at its center and was constructed in the 1960s by Sant Seva Singh Anandgarhwale.

Gurudwara Triveni Sahib is built around a sacred spring previously known as Karpa Baoli. According to popular tradition, the spring emerged when Guru Gobind Singh Ji struck the ground with his spear. The Gurudwara features a domed square hall, with a pavilion constructed over the spring in front of the main building.

Gurudwara Paur Sahib is situated near another spring and is associated with a similar legend. It is believed that this spring came into existence when the Guru’s horse struck the ground with its hoof, known as paur. The Gurudwara consists of a small domed room with a verandah in front and holds deep devotional significance for pilgrims.
