Gurudwara Rori Sahib, Eminabad

Gurudwara Rori Sahib is a historic Sikh shrine in Eminabad, Gujranwala District, Punjab, Pakistan. It marks the site where Guru Nanak Dev Ji stayed during Babur’s invasion of Punjab in 1521. The name “Rori” (pebbles) comes from the Guru having to sit and rest on a bed of pebbles during this time.

When Babur’s forces captured Eminabad, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, along with many locals, was arrested. At the time of his arrest, he was engaged in prayer while seated on the pebbles, demonstrating his spiritual strength. The Gurudwara was later built to commemorate this event.

The shrine is a three-story structure featuring Sikh architectural elements, including domes and a sarovar (sacred pool). A special room within the Gurudwara, topped with a lotus-shaped dome, marks the exact spot of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s arrest. Before Partition, the site hosted large Vaisakhi gatherings and a cattle fair.

After 1947, the Gurudwara suffered damage, with its main building set on fire. Though it fell into neglect, the Pakistan government has since carried out some preservation efforts, including building a protective boundary wall. Despite its deteriorating condition, the Gurudwara remains a place of deep historical and spiritual significance.
