Gurudwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur – Kanpur

Gurudwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur in Kanpur commemorates the sacred visit of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who halted here in 1665–66 while traveling from Etawah to Allahabad. At that time, Kanpur was a small village known as Kahnapur or Kanhaiyapur. Over time, this historic site grew in significance and devotion.

In the early 20th century, Sant Praduman Singh took the initiative to develop the original memorial shrine into a proper Gurudwara. Located in Dhobi Mohalla, near Sarafa Chowk, the site soon became a center of Sikh faith and community. The current three-storey building, completed in 1971, features a high-ceilinged hall with the sanctum on the first floor and a mid-height gallery surrounding it, offering a spacious and serene atmosphere for worship.

Today, the Gurudwara functions under the name Sri Guru Singh Sabha and is actively managed by a dedicated local committee. With its deep historical roots and continued spiritual importance, the shrine stands as a revered place of Sikh heritage in the heart of Kanpur.
