Gurudwara Thara Sahib

Gurudwara Thara Sahib, also known as Gurudwara Sahib Patshahi Chhevin, is located on the main Sirhind Road, between Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurudwara Jyoti Sarup Sahib, opposite Gurudwara Shaheed Ganj No. 2. Though small in structure, the shrine carries immense historical and spiritual significance. It is associated with Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the sixth Guru of the Sikhs, who stopped here while returning from Gwalior. At Gwalior Fort, Guru Ji had secured the release of 52 imprisoned kings, an event remembered as Bandi Chhor Diwas. On his onward journey to Amritsar, Guru Ji is believed to have paused at this spot and laid the foundation of a small bridge (pullia), which still exists next to the Gurudwara.

The Gurudwara itself is modest, with a simple building and no major facilities around it, but its importance lies in the sacred memory it preserves. Devotees visit this place to remember Guru Ji’s act of compassion and his role as both a spiritual guide and a liberator. The site stands as a reminder of Sikh history, where even a small structure becomes a powerful symbol of faith and sacrifice.

By Car: The Gurudwara is easily accessible by road as it is situated on the main Sirhind Road. Visitors can drive from nearby towns such as Sirhind and Fatehgarh Sahib. Parking space may be limited due to the small size of the shrine.
By Train: The nearest railway station is Sirhind Junction, which is well connected to major cities in Punjab and beyond. From the station, one can hire a rickshaw, taxi, or take a local bus to reach the Gurudwara.
By Bus: Regular buses operate on the Sirhind Road, connecting Fatehgarh Sahib and nearby areas. The Gurudwara lies conveniently between Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurudwara Jyoti Sarup Sahib, making it easy to locate.
By Air: The nearest airport is Chandigarh International Airport, about 55 km away. From the airport, taxis and private vehicles are available to reach Sirhind and then proceed to the Gurudwara.
