Gurudwara Akalgarh Sahib
Gurudwara Akalgarh Sahib, located in the village of Gharuan on the Chandigarh–Ludhiana Road, holds deep historical and spiritual significance. It lies approximately 6 km from Morinda and 8 km from Kharar.
This sacred site is associated with the visits of both Guru Har Rai Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Guru Har Rai Ji visited the village during his travels in this region, where many locals embraced his teachings. In his memory, a Dharamshala was established within the village, which later became a center of spiritual activity.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is also believed to have visited Gharuan, either during his journey to Delhi in 1675, or according to another tradition, during a stay of 10 days in 1670. When he first arrived, he went to the Dharamshala commemorating Guru Har Rai Ji’s visit. However, the priests there, possibly failing to recognize him, treated him with indifference. Guruji quietly withdrew and settled under a grove about 300 meters north of the village.
Soon after, the villagers realized their mistake and came to seek forgiveness, inviting Guruji to return to the Dharamshala. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, however, declined their request and remained in the grove. During his stay, a devoted carpenter named Balap Ram served him with great dedication.
Gurdwara Akalgarh Sahib today marks this significant episode and continues to be a place of reverence for the Sikh community.
