Sri Harmandir Sahib

Sri Harmandir Sahib, also known as Sri Darbar Sahib or the Golden Temple, is not only a symbol of unparalleled beauty but also the holiest and most revered Gurudwara for Sikhs worldwide. The name Harmandir translates to “Temple of God” (Hari – God), and it embodies the spiritual essence of Sikhism, attracting millions of devotees who visit daily to seek blessings and offer their prayers.

The vision for the sacred shrine was conceived by Guru Arjan Sahib, the Fifth Guru of the Sikhs, who also designed the architecture of the temple. It was Guru Amardas Sahib, the Third Guru, who first envisioned the excavation of the holy tank (Amrit Sarovar), a project later executed under the guidance of Guru Ramdas Sahib and Baba Budha Ji. The completion of both the holy tank and the town took place in 1577.

Today, Sri Harmandir Sahib is not just a place of worship but also a beacon of Sikh culture, spirituality and unity, offering a profound experience for visitors from all walks of life.
