Gurudwara Zafarnama Sahib
The village Kangar in Bathinda district was once the Capital of a big Hindu Zamindar Rai Jodh, disciple of Sixth Guru Hargobind. The holy dagger bestowed upon him by Guru Hargobind, is still in the possession of his descendents. This village is famous for the Gurdwara Zafarnama Sahib. It was here that Guru Gobind Singh wrote a letter in Persian poetry called ‘Zafarnama’ i.e. ‘Epistle of Victory’. He handed it over to Bhai Dya Singh to deliver it to Emperor Aurangzeb in the South.
At this place in 1704 A.D., on the request of Bhai Lakhmir and Bhai Shamir, the grandsons of Jodh Rai, they came from the village of Deena and worshiped here along with Pyare Daya Singh Ji, Dharam Singh Ji and Bhai Man Singh and other Surme Singhs. After Anandpur Sahib, he prepared the nectar of Khande Bate here and invited all the devotees and recruited the army of Singhs. Here, upon the request of Bhai Man Singh (Chor Bardar), Jafarnamah in Persian to the arrogant emperor of the time, Aurangzeb – ( wrote Fateh’s letter), in which Guruji reminded Aurangzeb of his bad deeds and oppressions on his subjects and praised the Lord of all, Akal Purakh, after reading which Aurangzeb fell ill and died. A joint fair is celebrated at this shrine every Masya and the annual incarnation day of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj is celebrated with great devotion by all the devotees.
