Gurudwara Shri Tahli Sahib, also known as Gurudwara Santokhsar Sahib, is located in Amritsar. This sacred site is associated with the Fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev. The holy sarovar (sacred pool) present here is called Santokhsar, which is considered the first sarovar excavated in Amritsar.

In 1564, under the instructions of Guru Amar Das, Bhai Jetha Ji (who later became Guru Ram Das) selected this site for the excavation of the sacred sarovar. During the digging process, he met a yogi who had been meditating at the site for a long time. The yogi introduced himself as Santokha and, after attaining spiritual liberation, passed away. In his memory, the sarovar was named Santokhsar.

Soon after, Bhai Jetha Ji was called back to Goindwal, and the excavation work remained incomplete. Later, Guru Arjan Dev Ji completed the excavation of both Santokhsar and the Amritsar sarovar. The supervision of this work was entrusted to Baba Budha Ji, and Santokhsar was completed between 1587 and 1589.

During the turbulent period of the 18th century, the sarovar fell into neglect. In 1824, it was connected to a canal channel, but over time it became blocked with silt and eventually turned into a dumping site. In 1903, the Amritsar Municipal Committee declared it a health hazard. However, due to the unwavering devotion of the Sikh Sangat, the sarovar was revived. Finally, in 1919, under the leadership of Bhai Sham Singh and Bhai Gurmukh Singh, Santokhsar was completely cleaned and restored through Kar Seva (voluntary community service).
