Gurudwara Suhela Ghora

Gurudwara Sri Suhela Ghora Sahib commemorates Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji’s visit in 1635. This site holds significant historical importance, as it marks the location where one of Guru Hargobind’s favorite stallions, Jan Bhai, wounded in the Battle of Kartarpur, eventually collapsed and passed away. However, it is important to note that the Gurdwara is wrongly named after Suhela Ghora, as historical sources indicate a different story regarding this horse.
According to Gurbilas Chevi Patshahi and Sri Gur Pratap Suraj Granth, Guru Hargobind’s horse named Suhela Ghora was killed in an earlier Battle at Gurusar/ Mehraj. The two horses, Jan Bhai and Suhela (originally named Dilbagh and Gulbagh, respectively), were being brought by a Sikh from Afghanistan for Guru Hargobind, unfortunately, they were snatched by the Governor of Lahore along the way. However, Bhai Bidhi Chand, a dedicated Gursikh, managed to recover the horses one by one through strategic planning and eventually brought them back to Guru Hargobind Ji.
There are now 2 Gurdwaras at what used to be the village of Paili Khurd. Gurdwara Sri Suhela Ghora Sahib of comprises a small room constructed in 1965, with a slightly bigger one added in 1982. Gurdwara Khooh Sahib, about 200 metres to the east of Gurdwara Sri Suhela Ghora Sahib, is close to an old well (khooh, in Punjabi) which was sunk by Guru Hargobind. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, which administers both the Gurdwaras, had the present building, a single square room, constructed in 1984.
