Gurudwara Shri Sant Ghat
Sultanpur Lodhi is one of the oldest towns in India, believed to have been founded around the first century CE. It was originally known as Tamasvana and was later rebuilt during the Lodi reign. The town served as a major trading center on the route between Delhi and Lahore. In Sikh history, Sultanpur Lodhi holds a special place as it is deeply associated with the life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji lived in Sultanpur Lodhi for about 14 years. During this time, he served under Daulat Khan Lodi as the manager of the Modi Khana (grain store). It was here that Guru Ji married Mata Sulakhni Ji and their two sons, Sri Chand Ji and Lakhmi Das Ji, were born. During his stay, a devoted congregation formed around him. Bhai Gurdas Ji wrote that “Sultanpur became a treasure of God’s devotion.”
Gurudwara Sant Ghat marks the sacred site where Guru Nanak Dev Ji disappeared into the holy Bein for three days and then reappeared. During those three days, he was in divine communion with the Almighty and was blessed with nine treasures, the gift of Naam and perfect humility. Bhai Gurdas Ji mentioned in his Vaars that it was here Guru Nanak Dev Ji recited the Mool Mantar and proclaimed the message of God’s oneness to the world.
Today, Gurudwara Sant Ghat stands as a symbol of Guru Ji’s divine enlightenment and the beginning of his spiritual mission, spreading the message of truth, humility and devotion.
