Gurudwara Shri Dashmesh Sthan Patshahi Dasvin - Nahan

Gurudwara Shri Dashmesh Sthan also known as Gurdwara Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Patshahi Dasvin is a revered Sikh shrine located in Nahan, a historical town in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The Gurdwara marks the spot where Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, stayed in 1685 during a period of political unrest. At the time, Raja Medni Prakash of Sirmaur invited Guru Gobind Singh Ji to Nahan for his support, as the state was facing threats from the Raja of Garhwal, Raja Fateh Chand. Guru Gobind Singh, who had already experienced tensions with the local ruler Raja Bhim Chand of Kahlur, accepted the invitation and traveled to Nahan.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s stay in Nahan was relatively brief, but it holds immense historical and spiritual significance. After arriving in Nahan in April 1685, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was offered some territory along the Yamuna River by Raja Medni Prakash. However, the Guru soon moved to Paonta Sahib, where he founded a new township, which became an important site in Sikh history. Even though Guru Gobind Singh Ji did not stay long in Nahan, his presence and influence in the region left a lasting spiritual legacy.

The sacred site where the Guru stayed in Nahan was later transformed into a Gurdwara, known as Gurudwara Shri Dashmesh Sthan. The present Gurdwara was built in 1954 and it stands near the Lytton Memorial archway. The architecture of the Gurdwara is simple yet impressive, with a high-ceilinged domed congregation hall. The hall features exquisite marble doorframes and a beautifully crafted, marbled canopied seat for the Guru Granth Sahib, the central religious scripture of Sikhism.
