Gurudwara Shri Bibhor Sahib

Gurudwara Shri Bibhor Sahib is a revered Sikh shrine located in Naya Nangal, just across the Sutlej River from Nangal town in Punjab. Pilgrims arrive here by crossing the river via the Nangal Dam, entering a tranquil township near the Nangal Fertilizer Factory. Surrounded by scenic views and spiritual calm, this sacred place is deeply rooted in Sikh history.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji arrived at this sacred site after crossing the Sutlej River, where he blessed a humble boatman, Saida Mallah, for his deep devotion and humility. The Guru proclaimed that twenty-one generations of Saida’s lineage would attain salvation. The site of the river crossing is now marked by Gurudwara Ghat Sahib – Nangal.

After reaching the opposite bank, Guru Ji stayed at Bibhor Sahib for several months at the request of Raja Ratan Rai. During this stay, on a Sunday in Samvat 1753, Bhadon Sudi Ashtami, Guru Ji recited the sacred Chaupai Sahib on the banks of the Sutlej, further sanctifying the place and making it spiritually significant for generations to come.

Today, Gurudwara Shri Bibhor Sahib stands as a timeless symbol of devotion, grace and Guru Ji’s divine presence. It continues to draw pilgrims and seekers who wish to connect with the legacy and teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

How to Reach

Gurudwara Shri Bibhor Sahib is located in Naya Nangal, just across the Sutlej River from the town of Nangal. Reaching this holy site is convenient due to strong road, rail and air connectivity.

By Road: Nangal is well-connected to major cities like Chandigarh, Ropar and Anandpur Sahib. From Chandigarh, it’s a comfortable three-hour drive via NH205. Once you reach Nangal, you can cross the Sutlej River via the Nangal Dam to enter Naya Nangal. The Gurudwara is situated near the Nangal Fertilizer Factory and is easily accessible by local taxis or autos.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Naya Nangal Railway Station. From the station Gurudwara is just a short ride away by auto-rickshaw or cab.

By Air: The closest airport is Chandigarh International Airport, approximately 100 km from Nangal. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or board a bus to reach Nangal and then proceed to Naya Nangal.

Travel Tip: Many pilgrims also visit the nearby Bhakra Dam, a major tourist attraction, during their trip. Local transportation is readily availabl and signage to the Gurudwara is visible throughout the area.
