Gurudwara Sach Khand

Gurudwara Sach Khand, Farooqabad, is a small and serene shrine set amid open fields about one kilometer from Gurudwara Sachcha Sauda, across the railway line. Situated on the outskirts of Farooqabad, this sacred place is linked to a meaningful episode from the travels of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and reflects the simplicity of early Sikh heritage.

According to tradition, it was here that Bhai Mardana, feeling hungry, expressed his need for food. At that moment, a caravan of donkeys carrying loads passed by. Guru Nanak Dev Ji asked Bhai Mardana to inquire about the contents of the bags. When questioned, the merchant dishonestly replied that they contained only sand. Guru Sahib calmly responded, “So be it, let it be sand.” Disturbed by these words, the merchant checked the bags and found that the sugar had indeed turned into sand. Stricken with fear and remorse, he rushed back to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, fell at His feet and confessed the truth. Guru Sahib then said, “If it was sugar, then sugar it shall be.” When the bags were rechecked, the sand had transformed back into sugar. Overwhelmed, the merchant bowed in humility and offered the sugar in devotion.

Today, a modest yet graceful Gurudwara with a dome commemorates this miraculous event. Over time, however, the site has faced neglect and its condition has gradually declined. The surrounding space has also been taken over by devotees of a local Sufi saint, whose grave lies facing the Gurudwara. ven so, local devotees continue to speak fondly of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and honor Him as a saint. Though the physical structure shows signs of decline, the spiritual significance of this place remains alive in local memory.
