Gurudwara Tahliana Sahib - Raikot

Gurudwara Tahliana Sahib in Raikot marks the blessed site where Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, visited in the year 1705 during his journey after the battle of Chamkaur. While passing through this region, Guru Ji arrived near the village of Raikot, which was then under the influence of a local chieftain named Rae Kalla. Rae Kalla had a loyal herdsman named Noora Mahi, who happened to be tending to his buffaloes in the fields when Guru Ji reached the area.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji, tired from the journey and the hardships of war, asked Noora for some milk. Noora respectfully replied that he had just finished milking the buffaloes and had nothing left to offer. At that moment, Guru Ji pointed toward a seemingly dry and barren heifer nearby and instructed Noora to try milking it. Surprised, Noora expressed another concern—that he didn’t even have a vessel to collect the milk.

Guru Ji then handed him a special vessel known as the Ganga Sagar, which had 288 small holes in it. With curiosity and reverence, Noora tied the dry heifer to a tree using a branch of a karonda shrub and began the task. To his utter amazement, the heifer began giving milk, and not a single drop leaked from the Ganga Sagar despite its many holes. The miracle left Noora speechless and deeply moved.

He immediately went and informed Rae Kalla about the divine presence and the extraordinary event. Upon hearing this, Rae Kalla, along with many villagers and devotees, came to pay their respects and have darshan of Guru Ji. The moment left a lasting impression on the people of the area, and in memory of this miraculous incident and the Guru’s visit, Gurudwara Tahliana Sahib was later established.
