Gurudwara Naulakha Sahib

Gurudwara Naulakha Sahib is located in the village of Naulakha, Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab, India, situated on the Patiala-Sirhind Road, approximately 19 km from Patiala and 13 km from Sirhind. The village name derives from a significant event during a visit by Guru Tegh Bahadur and Mata Gujri while touring the Malwa region.

The story behind the name begins with Lakhi Shah Wanjara, who had lost his ox. While in despair, he vowed to offer several takkas (basic units of money) to Guru Tegh Bahadur if he found his ox. After finding the ox in the jungle, Wanjara offered nine takkas to the Guru Ji. The Guru, without touching the offering, sent it to the Sangat. Wanjara, believing the Guru was dissatisfied with the amount, promised to offer more of the same. However, Guru Tegh Bahadur replied that nine takkas were equivalent to nine lakh takkas. The Guru’s blessing resonated with the people, and they named the village Naulakha, which means “Nine Lakh,” in honor of the Guru’s teachings and the remarkable event.
