Gurudwara Nanakpuri Sahib, Tanda

Gurudwara Nanakpuri Sahib is closely tied to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who visited this site during his Uttarakhand Udasi (travel) in 1514. Guru Ji came here at the request of Bhai Hara Singh. The Rohilla Pathans in the area were involved in the evil practice of child trafficking. To end this, Guru Nanak Ji performed miraculous feats. Disguised as a child, he was captured by the Pathans and sold multiple times to different merchants. Each time, his miraculous acts exposed the wrongdoings of the Pathans and revealed the injustice of their actions.

When Guru Ji was sold to a merchant who tasked him with scaring away parrots from his garden. The garden dried up. The Pathan then sold Guru Ji to a sheep merchant, but each sheep Guru Ji touched died, only to revive when he touched them again. Later, the Pathan sold him to another merchant who set him to grind wheat, but the amount of flour produced was shockingly small. Finally, the Pathans realized their mistake after Guru Nanak Ji performed a miracle that dried up all nearby rivers and wells. He promised them the water would return once they gave up the practice of child trafficking. The Pathans, realizing their wrongdoings, promised to reform and became devoted followers of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

The Pathans of Rohelkhand embraced Sikhism, and Guru Nanak Ji’s teachings began to spread in the area. Today, the main Gurpurabs celebrated here include the birthdays of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and the festival of Hola Mohalla. For visitors, the Gurdwara provides excellent accommodation with a well-maintained sarai offering 35 rooms.
