Gurudwara Hardo Sahari, Distt - Kasur
Located in Tehsil and District Kasur, the village of Sahari holds a distinctive place in Sikh history. Interestingly, there are two villages by the same name, and together they are referred to as Hardo Sahari — with ‘Hardu’ meaning ‘both’ in Persian. The site is accessible via tonga from Kot Murad Khan (Kasur), or alternatively, one can disembark at Bhilla Hathar railway station and proceed to the village.
Situated on the outskirts of the village, Gurudwara Sahari Pir Sahib also known as Gurudwara Hardo Sahari or Hado Sahari marks the revered legacy of Pir Sahari Chhina Jat, a devout soul who became a Sikh during the time of Guru Amar Das Ji. His spiritual transformation and selfless devotion earned him sainthood and deep respect among both Sikhs and Muslims in the region.
Adjacent to the Gurudwara is the Samadh (memorial shrine) of Pir Sahari Sahib. According to his will, his body was to be placed upright and enclosed within walls at the cremation ground — a gesture of interfaith respect, ensuring no one would be hurt, whether they followed burial or cremation rites. Today, a cloth bearing Quranic verses covers the Samadh and Muslim villagers continue to recite the Quran here, highlighting the deep reverence they hold for him.
Though the historic tank near the Gurudwara has now turned into a pool of stagnant water, the building remains strong . The Gurudwara is endowed with 85 ghumaon of land, located within the village boundaries. The shrine is locally known as Sahari Pir and is cared for by a Muslim fakir, reflecting the harmonious coexistence and shared spiritual heritage of the area.
Each year, an annual fair is held at the site, drawing devotees from both Sikh and Muslim communities, who come to pay homage and seek blessings.
