Gurudwara Guru Nanak Bagichi, Mathura

Gurudwara Guru Nanak Bagichi (lit. Guru Nanak’s small garden) lies on the right bank of the Yamuna River, near Masani railway station between Mathura and Vrindavan. The gurudwara is dedicated to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who visited Mathura and Vrindavan during the month-long Shravan fair, held in the Bikrami month of Savan (July-August). During this time, the river water was often muddy and as a result, Guru Nanak Dev Ji is said to have set up a piau (drinking water stall) to serve clean water to the pilgrims.

The commemorative shrine was established here and has been maintained by a long line of Udasi priests. In the 1950s, it was taken over by the Mathura Singh Sabha and later, in 1975, it was handed over to Sant Sadhu Singh Mauni for reconstruction. Today, it features a rectangular hall with a vaulted roof, along with a verandah in front. Several rooms are also available for staff and pilgrims. A water tank with taps, situated by the roadside, now represents the piau that Guru Nanak Dev Ji once provided for thirsty travelers.
