Gurudwara Raj Ghat Patshahi Dasvin, located in Kurukshetra, marks the visit of Guru Gobind Singh Ji during the solar eclipse fair of 1702–03. At that time, it was widely believed that donating rich alms to Brahmans during a solar eclipse would help free the Sun-god from demons who were thought to be eating the sun and would also earn spiritual merit for the donors. Guru Gobind Singh Ji challenged this superstition with wisdom and insight.

To expose the irrational nature of such beliefs, Guru Ji placed valuable gifts on a donkey and asked the Brahmans to accept them as alms. Although they coveted the offerings, they hesitated to touch the donkey, considering it impure. The scene attracted a large gathering, exactly as Guru Ji intended. He used this moment to explain to the people the absurdity of linking eclipses to mythical gods and demons, and the futility of ritualistic charity motivated by fear and greed.

One Brahman, Mani Ram, showed true understanding and courage. Ignoring threats of excommunication from other priests, he accepted the donkey as Guru Ji’s blessing and sought his guidance. Pleased with his sincerity, Guru Gobind Singh Ji blessed him with a hukamnama and presented him with a dagger as sacred relics. Today, Gurudwara Raj Ghat Patshahi Dasvin stands as a reminder of Guru Ji’s teachings against blind superstition and his emphasis on truth, reason and spiritual awareness.
