Gurudwara Arisar Sahib

Gurudwara Arisar Sahib is situated on the common boundary of the villages Dhola, Handiaya and Choong. It lies on the Barnala–Bathinda road, about 8 kilometers from Barnala in Punjab. The foundation of this Gurdwara Sahib was laid around 1920 by Mahant Bhagat Singh, who was a Kuka Sikh. At that time, the area consisted of a pond and bushy land known as “Giddri Wala Banna,” where herdsmen from nearby villages used to graze their cattle.

Historically, this sacred place is associated with Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. According to the Gur Pratap Suraj Granth, when Guru Sahib departed from Handiaya, his horse stopped and refused to move about two miles ahead. When the Sangat asked the reason, Guru Sahib explained that Muslim landlords in the area cultivated tobacco and did not remember the Name of the Lord. Guru Ji blessed the place, saying that in the future these very people would become Sikhs and serve the Guru’s house. He also declared that any devotee who comes here and offers Ardas will have their pending tasks fulfilled. After this, Guru Sahib proceeded towards Sohiyana Sahib.

Later, Mahant Bhagat Singh received a divine message to search for this sacred spot. He came and settled there, and some young men from village Dhola provided him with food. He then installed a small Nishan Sahib and laid the foundation of the Gurdwara. After him, Mahant Bakhtaur Singh, Mahant Lal Singh and Mahant Bharpur Singh continued the service. At present, the Gurdwara is under the management of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. In 1997, Jathedar Baba Harbans Singh Ji initiated the reconstruction Kar Seva of the Gurdwara, which was later carried forward by Baba Babu Singh.

Today, Gurdwara Arisar Sahib stands as a magnificent structure and remains a center of deep faith for devotees. It is firmly believed that sincere prayers offered here help resolve long-standing difficulties and fulfill pending wishes.
