Gurudwara Tobha Bhai Salho Ji

Gurudwara Tobha Bhai Salho Ji is located in the Amritsar district of Punjab. This sacred site holds historical significance as it was blessed by the presence of Guru Ram Das Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.

Bhai Salho Ji was a devoted Sikh during the times of Guru Ram Das Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. He was born on September 29, 1554, in the village of Daula Kingra, in the Malwa region of Punjab, to Bhai Diala Ji and Mata Sukhdei Ji, who belonged to a Dhaliwal Jatt family. His parents were originally followers of Pir Sakhi Sarwar (Sultanias) but later embraced Sikhism after having the darshan of Guru Ram Das Ji (1574-1581).

Later, Bhai Salho Ji’s parents moved to Majitha village in Amritsar district, where they permanently settled. However, Bhai Salho Ji, who was still young at the time, chose to stay in Amritsar (then known as Guru Ka Chak) to serve Guru Sahib and devote himself to selfless service (sewa) and meditation (simran).

The Sikh sangat traveling from Lahore to Amritsar for Guru Ji’s darshan would often pass through this route and stop at Gurudwara Tobha Bhai Salho Ji before proceeding further. Guru Arjan Dev Ji had deep love and affection for his Sikhs and frequently visited Bhai Salho Ji’s dharamsal.

In 1589, Bhai Salho Ji was present at the wedding of Mata Ganga Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s wife, at Mau Sahib, alongside many other prominent Sikhs. Around 1605, he also participated in the wedding of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. Bhai Salho Ji passed away in 1628 at the age of 74.

Gurudwara Tobha Bhai Salho Ji is situated near Gurudwara Guru Ka Mahal and Qila Lohgarh Sahib. The present structure of the Gurudwara dates back to the Sikh Empire and features architectural designs from the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1799-1839).
