Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib
Gurudwara Rakabganj Sahib is located opposite the Lok Sabha , 5 km from New Delhi Railway Station . Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib was established in 1783 by Sardar Baghel Singh. This Gurudwara holds an important place in the tourist places of Delhi. A large number of devotees and tourists come here.
Two brave Sikhs of the Guru, Bhai Lakhi Shah Banjara and his son, Bhai Naghiya, rescued the headless body of the revered ninth Sikh Guru from Chandni Chowk in Delhi after the Guru’s execution. Both of them rescued Guruji’s body from a convoy of many bullock carts carrying bales of cotton and food items. Due to a strong dust storm, these brave Sikhs managed to carry the Guru’s body without being seen by the Mughal soldiers, who could not even know what was going on. These two Sikhs managed to quickly lift the body under the cover of a storm and then hid the body in a bullock cart under bales of cotton. Then they quickly started towards Raisina village, where they lived. On reaching his residence, Bhai Lakhi Shah Banjara placed the Guru’s body on his bed and set his entire house on fire to avoid any suspicion from the Mughal authorities. This place came to be known as Rakabganj. This tragic death of the Guru and his devoted companions took place on November 11, 1675 under the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Another devoted Sikh, Bhai Jaita, carried the Guru’s head to Anandpur Sahib, 500 km (300 mi) from Sheeshganj, Chandni Chowk.
